Tiny Organisms, Global Impact

We are a research group studying the link between the biosphere and biogeochemical cycles across multiple timescales, ranging from the geologic past to the present day and under future climate change scenarios. Specifically, we are fascinated by marine phytoplankton, which are unicellular, photosynthetic microorganisms that drive the interwoven global cycles of carbon and nutrients.

We are a multidisciplinary group; by integrating data from laboratory experiments and field observations into mathematical models, we explore the reciprocal interaction between marine phytoplankton and their environment. This perspective enables us to address fundamental questions at the intersection of ecology, oceanography, biogeochemistry, Earth sciences, and geology.
